A solid, fun time at the theaters! Content collapsed. Not as good as the first one but still better than the recent Marvel slate Content collapsed. Shame the fun of the first movie is turned into cliches and boring story here.

The announcement of the DCU reboot by James Gunn was a significant factor in the underperformance of Shazam 2. The uncertainty surrounding the future of the Shazam franchise, coupled with the confirmation that the old DCEU was coming to an end, led to a loss of interest among fans.

The disappointing performance of Shazam! Fury of the Gods may be because of the state of the DCU. Even before it was announced that James Gun and Peter Safran would be stepping up for DC Studios, the franchise was mired with inconsistencies and tonal issues, which naturally poisoned interest in its continuation.

“I think 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' is objectively actually a better movie than the first film,” Levi admitted. “A lot of people don't think so.” He then joked that the appropriate response to those people is “f— those guys,” earning uproarious laughter from the crowd.
