Jackson County ranks in bottom half among Tennessee counties for child well-being

When it comes to the economic well-being of its residents and the overall state of its children, Jackson County ranks 64th out of 95 counties in the state, according to the KIDS Count report released earlier this month by the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth.

One In Custody After Trooper Shot Over the Weekend

An arrest has been made in connection to the shooting of a Tennessee Highway patrolman Friday evening. According to a press release issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Security, a Blue alert was issued after Trooper Adam Cothron was shot during a traffic stop on I-40, mile marker 285, near the Burgess Falls exit at approximately 7:47 p.m.

Weekend Accidents Result In Multiple Injuries

Jackson County E-911 is reporting two separate vehicle accidents over the weekend have injured five people. The first automobile accident occurred on South Grundy Quarles Highway near Pap Johnson Circle around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Pray4TN Event Held On Jackson County Square

Organizers of a movement across the state that invites community members to gather and “Pray4TN” noted their 60th stop at the Jackson County Court Square in downtown Gainesboro was “extra special.” As of Thursday, July 18, pray for Tennessee organizers have hosted events in 60 of the state’s 95 counties. More stops are planned throughout the end of the month.

Allen Retains County Assessor of Property Seat

Kaleb Allen will keep his seat as Jackson County Assessor of Property after Thursday’s county general election. Allen earned 948 votes, claiming 57.18 percent of 1,658 ballots cast for assessor of property. His challenger, Glenda Mayberry, garnered 709 votes (42.76%). Results from the Aug. 1 election are unofficial until they are certified by the Jackson County Election Commission office.

What appeared to be a “highly professional” job of safe cracking took place Sunday night at Dudney’s Grocery located at the intersection of highways 56 and 53 east of Gainesboro. Averitt Dudney, owner of the store, reported that approximately $425 in cash and more than $1000 in checks were stolen.
