Ended up making the switch from Telus.
15 minutes in and out of the store. One activation fee waived, one paid.
Now saving over $100/m compared to Telus, have a better plan, and I actually have better service thanks to national roaming.

Wondering if that is safer than porting in a number right away.

I did it this way so I could also test out the network. I was pretty sure it was gonna be fine and it was.
The only part was not knowing when the port was gonna go through or if it worked when calling in

EDIT: In my case, I want to switch to the 75+10 GB plan for $45.
I too want the updated plan + keep my bonuses which would be insane but after lots of attempts it’s a no go. Can’t find a rep that can keep the promos intact.

I am on their postpaid plan. How come I can only add lines only on BYOD? If I tried to add a new phone on a new line, it tells me to head into a store.

Maybe related? - Max of five lines per account without being checked out. Any above that has to be in person so they can see ID.
I’m on 7 lines one account postpaid but 6 and above had to be added in person. This worked out for me because last port in I was able to add the 1000 minutes international promo which can only be done in store.

I only have 2 lines on the account, and couldn't get new phones on the account. Can only add more byod plans.

Weird. Check with rep what tab amount you have allocated to your account.

I think I'm pretty dead set on switching back to Freedom, but I'll just wait for a "we miss you" email with an additional discount like they did with the $34 plan

I guess I signed up for postpaid online; therefore, they haven't verified my ID yet by going into a store. Therefore, I might be barred from getting a phone financed on the account.

I LIKE everything on ONE bill. Hey Freedom/Quebecor PLEASE allow Freedom mobile to be on ONE Vmedia Bill as ONE Internet/TV/Smart phone/landline provider. THANKS!!
(Yes, I know landlines are obsolete, but I use it to find my Smartphone when I can't find it-I call it. lol)
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

After I posted last night, I was able to find a rep willing to help, so I now have the $45 plan (after the two $5 discounts), with my 32 GB of Nationwide data + what remains of my one-time 1 GB Roam Beyond gift left intact.
I'm happy about that, but I think maybe I should have switched to the $35 plan without Roam Beyond. Realistically, I don't travel often enough that it makes sense. I have travelled quite a bit in the past month + the beginning of the year, but that's pretty anomalous.
Hopefully, I can find someone who's willing to allow me to change it to that, despite the rule of "one change per month / per three months." Maybe the fact that I did it in the past 12 hours might help my case.

Signed up and tested a few things, now ready to port. Better to go in store or do it over chat?

I was in this situation. I figured the $10 extra a month wasn't worth it for the one or two times I travel outside NA a year. I'll just continue to get an eSIM for those times.

For us we were on the older plan plus Apple Watch plus VVM. It was a no brainer to move to the $55 plan for more everything and ‘free’ tablet sim. VVM is included. We do quite a bit of travelling. Happy with setup we have now. It’s nice to also be able to HUP in the future. Hopefully there will be some stonking deals coming up.

Meaning you had gotten the $45 plan, but was able to switch to the $35 plan soon after?

As we get closer towards end of August, does anyone think these Freedom Mobile offers will improve with Back-To-School specials?

No sorry just when I was mulling over options I was torn between the two. Just went with the 35 one right away. I bet you'll be okay next month that the plan will still be around

My experience so far, we had two Public Mobile accounts and are leaving them both as soon as the billing cycles allow. First was my wife's, an older iPhone 8 that requires a physical sim and does 4G. So we switched her to the prepaid $149.00 / year 30GB over 12 months with unlimited voice and text. I started online but the delivery date for the sim card didn't work for us so stopped into a Freedom store. No charge for the sim card but they could not waive the $10 activation charge. All in with plan cost, activation, monthly service charge and taxes - $178.92, call it $15.00 a month for an average of 2.5GB / month with unlimited calling and text. That's an upgrade on her PM plan for the same cost. I'd like the $20 / month plan with 3GB / month with the 2GB add on that several RF people have mentioned receiving - so far no luck. The store says their computers are locked into the plans and they can't make changes. Stopped at a Walmart, I think they were using someone from the bakery department to fill in for the regular guy - he had no clue about anything. Spoke with 2 online reps so far, one asked where I had heard about the 2GB being added on because there was no way any reps could be doing that. I replied thank you and moved on. I'll try again and if it doesn't work, change to the same $149.00 plan, that price looks pretty good.
