There is an intimidating number of scrolls, items, and spells in Baldur's Gate 3, so it can be overwhelming to know where to start in terms of stacking their effects. This can be especially tricky when each class has its own strengths and weaknesses, and playing different characters introduces different combinations of options. If you have never played any form of D&D before, you also might not be familiar with terms like proficiency, ability checks, attack rolls, and advantages and disadvantages.

9 Hex And Scorching Ray

A warlock spell, and bonus action, Hex does 1d6 necrotic damage for each successful attack rolled and gives the person you've hexed a disadvantage on checks of one of six abilities. The reason it pairs well with Scorching Ray is that the necrotic damage stacks if all your attacks hit.

This means that, if you hit the target you've hexed with all four rays, then you'll deal 4d6 necrotic damage on top of the attack damage. Plus, Hex can be reapplied without wasting a spell slot, so this is a great way to dish out intense bursts of extra damage on one foe.

8 Rage And Elixir Of Bloodlust

This combination is an absolute must for you barbarians out there. In a nutshell, Rage increases your strength while increasing your resistance to all physical damage. Once you've activated Rage, you can then drink an Elixir of Bloodlust.

Once per turn with this elixir, you gain an additional action and five temporary hit points upon making a kill. Stacked with the advantages of Rage, this combination helps turn your barbarian into a killing machine.

7 Darkness And Devil's Sight

Darkness is a spell that doesn't deal any damage, but it does blind all creatures within it and prevents anyone from making ranged attacks into or out of it. Those within it also have a disadvantage on all attack rolls. This is a great combination for forcing enemies to waste a turn trying to leave it while also disadvantaging them.

Where Devil's Sight comes in is to give your warlock the ability to operate within this unaffected, and you'll have an advantage on all attacks. If you don't have a warlock with Devil's Sight, the Eversight Ring and Steelwacther Helment will grant you similar abilities.

6 Water And Witch Bolt

Water is one of the most common items found in the game, so you're bound to almost always have some on hand. This is good news for anyone who has a spell that deals electric damage, because you can turn that simple item into a bonus attack. Any wet surface hit by lightning becomes an electrified water surface.

That means that opponents will be shocked and unable to react while receiving a disatvantage on saving throws and dexterity abilities. Since Witch Bolt already stacks, increasing by 1d12 each turn it's activated, and an electrified surface deals an additional 1d4 damage per turn, you can build up a nice amount of damage.

5 Grease And Fireball

Grease, like ice, creates an elemental surface that has a chance at making an enemy prone, which is a state that leaves them unable to act. On top of this, Grease is useful because it reacts to fire. So, once you're done watching enemies slip around, you can target the area with Fireball and create a burning surface.

A burning surface does 1d4 fire damage per turn the condition is applied. Any fire spell can do this, but Fireball has a high damage point at 8d6 fire damage and a decent AoE for a level three spell.

4 Find Familiar And Sanctuary

This combination is good for allowing you or a member of your party to take a break while still having something deal damage in their place. Sanctuary is an incredibly useful spell for a cleric in your party working support during combat. While it's active, for ten turns, the person it's been cast on can't be targeted by attacks, even if they still take AOE damage, as long as they don't harm anything.

Since it's a bonus action, you can summon a familiar family, then immediately protect yourself in order to focus on support or give yourself a break from being attacked. With the familiar ready to take up the fight, you can have the best of both worlds.

3 Web And Cloudkill

Cloudkill is a great spell for dealing passive damage each turn at 5d8 poison damage. As a bonus, it also blinds those within it, and it can be repositioned each turn without wasting a spell slot.

To maximize the impact of this, ideally you want it to keep working on the enemies you've cast it over, and that's where web comes in. Each turn those who are standing on a Web surface will need to pass a Dexterity saving throw to remain able to move.

2 The Iron Flask And Invisibility

This combination isn't necessarily going to help you in the long term. It really depends on what your goal is. What's sure to happen when you use the Iron Flask is that there will suddenly be a very powerful enemy present, and you don't want to be the thing it targets.

An absolute must for crowd control, this combination will give you a quick leg up. You can use a Void Bulb to get a number of enemies into the radius of Cloud of Daggers before or after casting it.

Cloud of Daggers does 4d4 slashing damage at level two, and an additional 2d4 damage at every level higher, which is fantastic for taking out enemies with low health in mass numbers. It also lasts for ten turns if you can keep your concentration, which helps with controlling the battlefield.
